Ontic Sports, the category manager for the MRF Tyres Australian Production Cars, has announced the appointment of Troy Williams as General Manager as part of an intensive growth strategy for the company.

The APC competitor and experienced businessman will be responsible for operating and growing the MRF Tyres APC going forward and is also actively pursuing opportunities for the expansion of Ontic Sports as a national motorsport promotions company.

This work is already paying off and Ontic Sports expects to make a number of exciting announcements in the coming weeks.

“I am very excited to announce the appointment of Troy to the Ontic Sports team as General Manager,” Ontic Sports Director, Iain Sherrin, said.

“I have been very proud of the work Ontic Sports has done with the MRF Tyres APC over the last five years and I have enjoyed working and also racing in the category immensely.

“However, as we look to grow, it is now the time for me to step back from the management side of things and allow Troy to take the company forward, growing not only the APC but also Ontic Sports by pursuing some exciting new opportunities.

“I will be focusing on my other businesses and I also look forward to being ‘just a competitor’ at MRF Tyres APC rounds in the future. Troy is a consummate professional who knows our sport inside and out, so I have no doubt that the future for Ontic Sports, the MRF Tyres APC and any other projects we undertake is very bright indeed.”

A racer himself both locally in the APC and also in China in Radicals and the PanDelta Series with BlackArts Racing, Williams has an in-depth knowledge of the national motor racing scene and the needs of its competitors.

This first-hand knowledge of the business of Ontic Sports is backed up by a strong business background featuring decades of experience at the senior management level.

Until recently, Williams was primarily based in the Asia Pacific region, in Singapore and then Hong Kong with S&P Global Market Intelligence from 2010 to 2018.

In 2019 he established venue-smart technology business Loc8te before moving back to Australia full-time last November, at which time he also became a Board Member for Without a Ribbon Incorporated, a charity which focuses on support for rare cancers.

“I am very pleased to be joining Ontic Sports. Motorsport is something that I am very passionate about,” Williams said.

“While this year has been a difficult one for everyone, there are lots of exciting opportunities ahead for all of us and I am really looking forward to growing Ontic Sports and the options available to Australia’s competitor base.”

Further announcements from Ontic Sports regarding the MRF Tyres APC and other opportunities will be published in the coming weeks.
