As the impacts of COVID-19 continue a number of changes have been made in recent days to numerous racing schedules, with two of these changes directly impacting MRF Tyres Australian Production Cars competitors.
Yesterday, the Australian Racing Group announced that the Bathurst International – at which the MRF Tyres APC was to hold its final round for the year with four x 30-minute races was cancelled.
Today, Motorsport Australia has announced that it will postpone the Tailem Bend Motorsport Park event scheduled for October 22-24 to December 11-12, with the MRF Tyres APC set to still contest four x one-hour races at the December 11 and 12 event.
While the cancellation of the Bathurst International means that the MRF Tyres APC will no longer visit the Mountain in 2021, category manager Ontic Sports is pleased to confirm that competitors will still have the chance to race at the Mountain in 2022 and beyond given the multi-year agreement in place with event organisers.
The cancellation of the Bathurst International event also means that no championship will be awarded for the MRF Tyres APC in 2021.
“We are obviously disappointed by the cancellation of the Bathurst International and as a consequence, our ability to race at the Mountain this year and to award a national championship, but it isn’t all bad news,” Ontic Sports General Manager, Troy Williams, said.
“We are very pleased to be able to confirm that our agreement with the Australian Racing Group to compete at the Bathurst International has been extended by one year to make up for this year’s cancellation, which means that we have our spot secured at this great event for 2022, 2023 and 2024.
“On top of that, while postponed, the Tailem Bend event will go ahead and so MRF Tyres APC competitors will have a great opportunity to round out 2021 with four fantastic one-hour races at a truly impressive race track.
“2021 has certainly been challenging and we thank all of our competitors and our sponsors for their ongoing support.”
